What does Carci Reagent® detect?

The Carci Reagent® diagnostic test detects selected metabolites of the amino acid tyrosine in the urine. Elevated levels of these metabolites can indicate metabolic abnormalities that may occur, for example, with increased cell activity, including tumour cells. The test does not provide a specific diagnosis, but it does deliver an early signal of possible serious changes in the body that should be evaluated by a doctor.


Who can use the test?

The test is intended for adults, in particular as part of personal preventive care and for the long-term monitoring of changes in the body. In children or people with acute symptoms, the test should only be used after consulting a doctor.


When is the best time to perform the test?

Fresh first morning urine, ideally a midstream sample, is best suited. At this time the concentration of metabolites is most stable. It is important to observe the reading time according to the instructions – usually after 3 to 5 minutes, but no later than 10 minutes after the reaction begins.


How accurate is the test result?

Carci Reagent® is an orientational IVD screening test. In a clinical study it showed a sensitivity of 96.7% and a specificity of 99.4% in patients with a confirmed tumour disease. The result can nevertheless be influenced by sample collection, hydration, diet, medication or errors in performing the test. The test does not replace a laboratory examination.


What does a positive result mean?

A positive result is not a diagnosis. It indicates elevated levels of the monitored metabolites, which may be linked to a more serious state of health. Above all, it serves as an early warning signal and as a reason to consult a doctor, who will decide on the next steps.


What should I do if the result is unclear or illegible?

If the colour does not change as expected, is difficult to read, or is assessed outside the intended time window, the result is invalid. In this case we recommend repeating the test according to the instructions or seeking professional advice.


Can food or medication affect the test?

Yes. Foods high in protein, tyrosine or dyes, as well as certain medications and dietary supplements, can affect the result. We recommend avoiding such factors for at least 48 hours before the test and following the package insert carefully.


How should the test be stored?

Store the test in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight and at the temperature stated on the packaging. Do not use it after the expiry date or if the reagent bottle is damaged.

What should I do after a positive result?

If you receive a positive result, we recommend arranging an appointment with a doctor as soon as possible. Let them know that you have carried out the orientational Carci Reagent® home test, so that the result can be included in the further evaluation.


How long does the test take?

The test reaction takes approximately 3 to 5 minutes. The result must be read within the recommended time window – after 10 minutes it is no longer considered reliable.


Is the test painful?

No. The test is carried out with a urine sample and is therefore completely non-invasive and painless.


Can the test be used repeatedly?

Yes. Carci Reagent® can be repeated regularly, for example every 4 to 6 months as part of preventive care. The frequency should ideally be agreed with a doctor or in line with the manufacturer's recommendations.
